Patience is Learnt over Time |

A most challenging test that teaches how patience is learnt over
time is when you become a parent. There is a saying that goes “patience
is a virtue” and this is true. Yet, this saying makes one think that
patience might just be one quality that is possessed by only a few
people. But with enough effort, a parent can actually learn how to be
patient as well as get amused over a number of circumstances which he
used to find very annoying.
First, you need to know how to be
patient with your own self. Stop blaming yourself for things and
exhibit some tolerance without necessarily getting trapped into being
too complacent. It is very convenient though that almost all adults are
mature enough to remember in most cases to keep their anger or nerves
in control when dealing with children. Do not shout or raise your voice
when imposing something but rather, do it in a firm but calm intonation
no matter what the problem is.
In general, always try to avoid
thinking about things to be done the next day and overwhelm yourself
with potential or perspective issues. Keep your focus on immediate
problems only so that you will not get worried prematurely or
unnecessarily and easily get upset.
Choosing to have your stress
at low levels will certainly help infuse a lot more patience into your
personality. Try a calmer approach when explaining things to a child,
on what you expect of them, and how they can meet your expectations.
Avoid making a child feel that you blame them. Once you are talking
about your expectations, try not to ask for more than what they can
actually give for their age and for their intellectual and maturity
level.
Sometimes, children seem to purposely try testing their
parent’s limits in being patient. If you think that this is exactly
what your child is doing, then stop and ask yourself of the possible
reasons that could have pushed your child to do such a thing. Perhaps
they may be trying hard to mask frustrations when they feel that you
were being unfair in dealing with them or also that they are just
simply hungry for your attention.
It might also be helpful to
try and view the problem in your child’s point of view. Your child
might be thinking that if you cannot even learn how to be patient with
them, then why should they even try to help make your life any easier?
Being a parent is never an easy job. Like all good things, patience is
learnt over time. ---- Source: http://www.content-graphics.com Content
