We see and hear commercialism in our everyday lives. Even in mother’s day cards!

Commercialism is actually a big part of our lives from the activities we engage into and the things we buy. As proof of this, see the continuous 3-day-sale frenzies. There is even a Martin Luther King Sale, Irish sale and the President’s Day Sale. Commercialism is also ever present in small thoughtful things such as the greeting cards. The mother’s day cards to be precise.

As I hopped my way through sales craze being the chronic bargain hunter that I am, I decided to skid into one store to get this something but completely forgotten about it when my eyes caught the greeting cards section. My mind shifted gears at once when I saw them so I thought of picking up something nice for my mother and my mother in-law as well. And then commercialism amusingly hit me again as I saw different cards under different headings practically to be given to the women in our lives – mother’s day cards, cards for grandmothers, sisters, stepmothers, aunts, special women in our lives and the list goes on.  Women definitely love this. Imagine getting each of these cards at some point in a woman’s life. I guess that’s how important and special women are.

So I bought 2 mother’s days cards. One for my own mom and the other for my mother-in-law. I also got hold of more cards for my sisters and my godmother but just simply decided to pass up on giving them these sweet gestures. They are mothers alright and they deserve to be greeted being good mothers in their own ways. Maybe I’ll just send them some other time. So there, I just got two.

I can’t seem to stop myself from plucking out one card after another off the card shelves. It felt so good reading those simple notes that are written in every card. They can be so downright touching and very heartwarming. They can also be worded funny in its own blurbs.

But when you choose mother’s day cards for your mom, be sure that the message in the card is what you truly mean. You can also add more notes if you think that the message is not enough. Surely your mom will love this gesture. Try to see how she reacts when she reads the mother’s day cards you got for her.
