Who says Halloween has to be totally scary? Scary yeah, but filled with fun and lots of sweet stuffs! Halloween may spook you out as you commemorate the dead and pay respect to life thereafter, but it is also this time of the year when kids go trick or treating, carving out pumpkins, and making edible goods, like Halloween cakes. Decorating a Halloween cake is sure lots of fun!

So, how do you decorate a Halloween cake? As portrayed in TV shows or movies, anything that relates to something creepy, like ghosts, witches, ghouls, bats, black cats, are the best items to decorate a Halloween cake with.

Most cakes have decorations of zombies, vampires, mummies, demons, and werewolves — which are totally enthralling to behold. Mostly, these ideas are crafted by American filmmakers that make Halloween come alive. Of course, these are ideas that stir the audience’s imagination.

Like any other cake, Halloween cakes must also be playful and decorative enough to get the whole Halloween idea across. Make your cake look like a haunted house and your cake will totally rock! To do this, color the icing with black food color then pipe in white icing, drawing a spider web. Top your cake with an artificial spider to make it more realistic. This will surely blow the kids away.

You can also try to be more graphic with your Halloween cake that will appeal to older children. One nice idea is to make human body parts by using various molds to get the right shape. Experiment with different colors on your cake to make it look “terrifying” for the kids to love it more. There are Halloween figures you can buy that make good additions to finish off your Halloween cake.

If ideas are running low, try to think of superstitions. There is the bat belief that if a bat enters a house during Halloween, it means that ghosts and spirits are near or even inside the house. Also, if you see a spider during the Halloween, a dead person is actually watching you.

Remember, the spookier your cake looks, the more it will appeal to the children. Do not forget to mix different colors for your icing and use more black color to make it look perfectly Halloween. You can buy readily available Halloween figures from the market to make the feel of the cake more alive and stir onlookers’ imaginations. Halloween cake decorating is so much fun if you combine all the spooky ideas together.
